MAY WISHLIST

May 1, 2013

may wishlist

I cannot believe it is already May. I repeat, I cannot believe it is already May! However, I am elated that it is May! Finally the weather is warmer, the sun is shining, and everyday is one day closer to our pool opening. I think it opens this weekend, but I’m not positive. I hope so because it’s supposed to be mid-70s and I’ve got a giant stack of magazines just waiting to be read outside.

May Wishlist (clockwise)

JAYSON HOME // I like to only have one notebook that I use at a time, otherwise I’ll have seven notebooks around my house and then I can never find what I’m looking for among the notebooks. These graphic notebooks are so chic you can leave them out on your desk.

AUDEN // This Lennox Fringe necklace is loooong. It’s a really cool statement necklace that can turn any LBD into an amazing outfit.

ANCIENT GREEK SANDALS // I absolutely love this brand (visually — I don’t own any yet unfortunately). This pair of Thalia sandals is my favorite — it’s so simple you can wear them with anything for years to come.

BAUBLEBAR // These Opal Galactic Drops are the right mix of neutral and glam. They have very subtle colors but yet stay neutral and they are cheap!

REBECCA TAYLOR // This half tropical tee is a fresh floral top I’m sure I’d wear all summer long.

ZARA // I’m in need of a high black heel for the summer and this lace-up sandal has some interest and height.

3.1 PHILLIP LIM // You can’t really go wrong investing in a large tan tote bag. I’d carry this for years.

CLOVER CANYON // This Jaipur Jungle tank is perfect for super hot days because the back is a crossback which will let in a little air.

What’s on your wishlist this month?

GSD // Roxy Te Owens of Society Social

ROXY TE OWENS
Owner/Designer, Society Social
Founder, Cup of Te

What does a typical day look like for you?

It’s never typical since I’m between NYC and NC so much. Various days include being on location at a photo shoot, at my desk doing customer service or writing a Manifesto Magalog or look book, in the studio at a photo shoot, in the factory designing or inspecting product, at fabric market … you get the picture!

What parts of your job do you love?

I love interacting with my customers whether it’s on social media, the phone, or email. It’s energizing to talk to the people I design my products for and when they send me images of their Society Social styled out in their homes — it’s tippy top!

GSD in the Office // Desk Accessories

March 5, 2013

desk accessoriesI’m a huge proponent of  having surroundings that reflect your personal style (and yes, inspire you). I know for myself, working from home means staring at my furniture all day. And if I don’t like that furniture, then I’m stuck staring at it and thinking — I hate that couch. All. Day. Long.

As it relates to GSD (getting shit done) I believe it is important to have your office/desk reflect your style. It gives you no excuses to not GSD, and also it probably makes you just a little bit happier when you see that cute pencil cup, or patterned binder. Everyone has been posting this gold acrylic stapler and acrylic tape dispensers (both cute), but I’ve found a few other items you can add to your office for a little added style.

What are some of your favorite desk accessories?

GSD // Hitha Palepu of Hitha On The Go

What does a typical day look like for you?

No day is ever the same! But I try to keep my mornings as consistent as possible – a green juice and tea (and my vitamins!), going to the gym, and then getting my day started.

Each work day is different, but it all contains a flurry of e-mails, teleconferences, and offline work. I try to schedule my e-mail and offline work blocks around the day’s calls. My job’s work takes precedence during the day, but I do manage to get a fair amount of Portavi and blog work done during my offline work blocks.

I set reminders to grab snacks and lunch – otherwise I forget to eat!

I like to break at 5 pm to watch the news, flip through magazines or a book, and prepare something to eat. It’s nice to unwind for a couple of hours. My husband (when he’s not traveling) and I get to reconnect and catch up on our days, and when I’m home alone I get to indulge in my “single girl” behavior – singing along to the Pitch Perfect soundtrack at the top of my lungs and dancing around, doing a face or hair mask while watching Hardball (or a Real Housewives rerun), eating peanut butter right out of the jar, etc. Solo time is also a great time to go out and catch up with friends over a good meal or a drink – but on those days, the probability of getting work done later on is low, so I plan my day accordingly.

I usually log back in at 8 pm and work for another few hours, usually on the blog or Portavi. I like to end each day making sure all necessary e-mails are answered, calls are made (if not, that they’re scheduled for the next day), and my desk is clean. Continue reading…

3 Essential Items I Use to #GSD

November 13, 2012

kate spade ipad caseSo does this mean I play hooky every day as this kate spade ipad case playfully suggests? No, of course not! But it does mean that sometimes I am still in my pajamas until later than I’d like to admit if I’m not leaving my place that day. At my first #GSD Workshop a few weeks ago, a lot of the gals were asking me about my personal system for getting shit done. So I wanted to share three items with you that have really made a difference in my attempt to stay organized and efficient in my work process. Continue reading…
