My husband and I dubbed this holiday season Couchmas — because instead of giving each other gifts, we desperately need to get a couch (and a mattress, but one major purchase at a time here people). I can’t take credit for the term Couchmas, my husband is the one always coming up with funny words for things.
This was no ordinary couch search. The sofa we currently have is beyond uncomfortable. Neither of us even want to sit on it for long periods of time. Getting a more comfortable couch soon is a necessity. Due to the uncomfortable level of our current sofa that we didn’t sit on before it became ours, we didn’t want to purchase a couch we couldn’t actually sit on — so that takes out like 90% of the sofas on the market unless we wanted to take a trip down to High Point for a week to sit on every couch in America. So our choices are getting smaller and smaller here.
We spent two full weekends in December driving around the DC area (Maryland and Virginia included) going to every store we could find that had sofas and sectionals. I’m talking two full weekends. In December. With my husband who is not a huge fan of shopping, holiday crowds, DC traffic, or malls. That’s how desperate we are for a couch. We probably sat on 200 couches. On the fourth full day of couch shopping I got a bit grouchy. I was pretty surprised at my Mr.’s stamina during this search. He was the one being positive, and I was soooooo over this couch business.
We each have different qualities we want in a couch — his number one most important thing is that it be the most comfortable couch known to man. Like La-Z-Boy status. Like a damn fluffy mattress in the living room. In my opinion the comfort expectations were a little high. The couch we had before the uncomfortable couch was one of the most comfy sofas I’ve ever sat on, but it was old. And blue. I was done with it. It had to go. I do miss how comfy it was though. So because of that damn blue comfy couch, the expectation for comfort was high. Continue reading…
